Yaetšo Energy is a national-scale Coal-to-Liquids industrial corridor anchored in the Waterberg Energy Complex — targeting 80,000 barrels per day of domestic synthetic fuel production.
Yaetšo Energy is a national-scale energy and industrial corridor initiative anchored in the Waterberg Energy Complex, Limpopo Province. We are developing an 80,000 barrels-per-day Coal-to-Liquids synthetic fuels platform using proven Fischer–Tropsch technology — the same technology underpinning the Sasol Secunda complex.
South Africa currently imports 60–70% of its liquid fuels, creating structural vulnerability in its trade balance, currency stability, and energy security. Yaetšo Energy resolves this vulnerability at sovereign scale — producing domestically from rand-denominated Waterberg coal feedstock.
The Project is conceived as a transformative national infrastructure corridor integrating fuel production, carbon capture and storage, bulk water supply, rail logistics, power transmission, downstream petrochemicals, and a full settlement development platform.
To establish South Africa's sovereign fuel independence through a world-class Coal-to-Liquids industrial corridor that anchors northern economic transformation and positions Lephalale as the country's second strategic inland energy basin.
To develop, finance, and deliver an 80,000 bbl/day Fischer–Tropsch CTL platform and integrated industrial corridor that reduces South Africa's fuel import exposure, drives GDP growth, creates mass employment, and meets international climate compatibility standards.
Yaetšo Energy encompasses eight interdependent platform components that together create South Africa's second strategic inland energy-industrial axis.
Yaetšo Energy delivers macro-economic impact at a scale few single infrastructure programmes can match — simultaneously improving the trade balance, strengthening the currency, and anchoring long-term spatial-industrial transformation.
Led by a senior multidisciplinary team combining expertise in energy infrastructure, clinical science, petrochemical engineering, and strategic advisory.
Medical practitioner, entrepreneur and founder-originator of the integrated Waterberg / Lephalale platform. Leads the strategic architecture across CTL, green hydrogen, oxygen integration, chemicals, fertilisers, carbon utilisation, feedstock strategy and government engagement.
Provides board leadership, governance oversight and institutional positioning. His clinical and scientific background supports disciplined stewardship, high-level stakeholder confidence and the Board's long-term industrial-development mandate.
Leads commercial, finance and investor-facing workstreams, including funding pathways, financial structuring, governance support, international investor access and development-finance engagement. His commercial and academic background strengthens bankability positioning and capital-raising preparation.
The founding leadership is further supported by a team of seasoned scientists, chemists and engineers with deep specialisation across coal chemistry, Fischer–Tropsch process design, syngas conditioning, gasification systems, green hydrogen production, carbon capture and utilisation, and large-scale energy-industrial development — bringing the technical depth required to advance the Yaetšo Energy platform from pre-feasibility through to bankable project readiness.
